Today, I am healthy, happy, and in love with my work. But it wasn't always like that.
Not so long ago, I was a Type A, overachieving perfectionist and workaholic, burning the
candle at both ends in my "glamorous" job as a management consultant for Fortune 500
companies. For almost 10 years running, I was working 12-18 hour days (with some allnighters
thrown in) up to 7 days a week, traveling weekly, never saying no to my client
or bosses? requests to work more, do more, deliver more.

I was also in the best shape of my life. Or so I thought. I certainly worked out quite a bit.
Little did I know it was all a facade and that I was running on fumes.
In fact, I was proud that I had already reduced my quadruple (yes, 4 shots) venti latte
down to "only 1 cup of coffee" a day.
I was exhausted but would push through it, "no problem." |

I ignored the fact that my insides were crying every time I had to leave my home at 4:45
AM on Monday mornings for the airport. I made a fantastic 6-figure salary and was
being promoted ahead of my peer group. Did I dare admit that I no longer found my
work meaningful or fun? Even when I had a deep, aching, gnawing feeling that there
was something more, something else I was supposed to be doing?
Absolutely not.
I'd worked SO darn hard for all that I had achieved, how on earth could I question it
now? And, honestly, what else was there? I'd already looked at all kinds of possibilities
and none really fit me.
And forget about work-life balance. I was all work, no balance. Self-care, I scoffed at
you. Cooking? You kidding me? No time. Friends & family? I was woefully out of touch.

So one day, seemingly overnight, my body laid down the law and said NO MORE.
 My body betrayed me.
All of a sudden I couldn't walk. I could barely brush my teeth. I couldn't read because I
lost my short-term memory. I was enveloped by an all-consuming pain and fatigue I
didn't know could be allowed by the universe to exist.
My career came crashing down. I faced a big blank of a future, a paralyzing fear. My life
– what was left of it – was spiraling out of control. All at the ripe old age of 32.
Did it really happen overnight? No.
Because for almost 20 years, I didn't listen to the subtle signals my body tried to send
me. Oh no, not me. I had things to do, places to be, people to please.
Headaches, whatever. Nothing a few pain killers couldn't fix.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome? Not even a "real" diagnosis, though it was a pain in the ass, literally.
Chronic sinus infections and bronchitis? Who didn't get that… every 3 months?
Pneumonia? Okay, but I got over it. Three times.
Asthma? Yeah, but what could I do except puff on my inhaler?
Weird fevers with no other symptoms.
How about that time I lost my voice for 2 MONTHS straight?
Ovarian cysts, kidney cysts...
Major 3pm slumps.
Bone-tired but buzzing on caffeine and sugar: whatever would let me keep going…
And now I couldn't go anywhere, do anything, or be anyone.
It was just me, my bed, and the ceiling. And my pain. My body had given up.

I had no idea at the time that my body had given up in part because my mind and my spirit were engaged in a colossal battle where winner wanted to take all.
I wasn't living an authentic life.
I wasn't honoring my truth.
I wasn't being my deepest, most real, most trusting self.
Instead, I was shaped by "should"s, a deep-seated survival instinct, fear, outdated
habits that hadn't evolved with me, and convenience.

As I hit my rock bottom, I made peace with death. I felt like my body wanted to take the
way out. And yet, something refused to give in. I knew there had to be a better way and
that there had to be a greater reason for all this.
As usual, my mind - the reason for my success all these years - wanted to do everything
logically. "Be smart," it commanded, "You just need to think and work harder to fix
everything - this has worked before, why can't it work again?"
My spirit knew better. I had squashed it for so long, though, that I could barely hear what
it was whispering: "Follow me..."
And so I did. Why not? I had nothing to lose.
I was beginning to see that my BODY & MIND & SOUL were all intimately intertwined.
Not as a cliche, but for real. No two ways about it. If one was broken, the others couldn't
possibly be at their best.
And so it began...

The better I ate, in a way that suited my unique body, the better I felt.
The better I felt, the more my symptoms resolved across the board.
The fewer symptoms I had, the more clarity and energy I had.
The more clarity and energy I had, the more hope I had.
And hope gave me more power, strength, and conviction.
And THAT was the equivalent of my Spirit taking the driver's seat.
And so the spiral began to reverse and became an upward ascent rather than a
doomed downward descent that would've condemned me to a so-so, bleak life (if you
can call it that).
Today, I get to do work that I love, that feeds my soul.
HUGE a-ha: sometimes I do have to work long hours to grow my business, but when I
do what I absolutely love in a manner that delights me, I find I'm not drained like I used
to be in my previous career.
My energy is steady, starting from the moment I jump out of bed.
Honoring my cycles, my body, my femininity, and making micro-adjustments with my
food keep me there. No more 3pm slumps ~ totally a thing of the past.

All of the health nightmares I listed above? All RESOLVED!
Asthma, gone. Chronic bronchitis and pneumonia, gone. I don't even remember the last
time I got a cold. GI issues, at peace. And most critically for me: [undifferentiated
connective tissue disorder, fibromyalgia & chronic fatigue (and even lupus, which
peaked through then went away) ~ HEALED, in full remission as long as I respect my
triggers.]
My life flows in a way that fits me, my truth, and my priorities.
From the nature-packed backyard I can gaze at as I take a break from work, to the
family and friends I love and have more time for.
Was it always easy? Hell NO!!!
I spent multiple $10,000s and HUNDREDS of hours in doctors' offices and in
experimenting with all kinds of complementary therapies ~ where most didn't work and
sent me back into despair.
Feeling mortally terrified that EVERYTHING I had ever worked for, all those hours,
years, stress, was for nothing. That my life was disintiegrating before my eyes.
Going back to not one but two schools to retool my knowledge, after all that I had
already studied, finished, accomplished, and had student loans for!
Constantly asking myself, "Am I crazy?", "Is this even going to work?" and ultimately
deciding to trust in what felt right in my heart and gut. That was the hardest part of all.
It all came together when it finally dawned on me that...
That's ultimately why I'm here.
And why I had to go through everything I did. So you don't have to.

multi-faceted, sometimes terrifying, sometimes
